One of one. A turn-of-the-century Japanese tea service with hand-painted gold dragons and relief scenes that shift under light, marked by the original manufacturer.
Moriage is the term for the heavy relief slip-work that defines Japanese ceramics. These pieces show three-dimensional painted scenes on the cups that look like photographs when held to light. Dragons form the handles and accent the lids. The set includes a full service: teapot, sugar bowl, creamer, and six cups with saucers.
Antique Japanese ceramics are sought by serious collectors for their technical mastery and the rarity of intact services. This set shows minor gold loss on the handle rims (visible in photos) but is otherwise in excellent condition.
