52-card deck based on Calder's 1970s Card Player gouache series. Numbers and letters in his own handwriting.
Calder's Card Player series from the 1970s was never translated into a playable deck during his lifetime. Each card draws from the original gouache paintings; the numbers and letters are in his own handwriting. The striped back comes from the same period.
The court cards required a separate solution: Calder hadn't included them in the Card Player paintings. Designers sourced faces from a companion group of gouaches made around the same time. The result holds together as a set.
